Papers of Arthur Kyle Davis 1919-1970.

The collection is divided into two main sections covering Mr. Davis's university career and his Virginia folk music collection. The U. Va. section contains papers of the faculty senate, the graduate faculty and Rhodes scholarship committees on which Davis served; papers from the English department including faculty business and lecture notes, exams and student papers; essays and speeches by Davis, correspondence, and the ms. for "The political thought of the Victorian poets ..." There is also a copy of "W.B. Yeats and generic tragedy" by Benjamin Lawrence Reid. The Virginia folk music collection contains proofs of "Traditional ballads of Virginia" and "More traditional ballads of Virginia"; correspondence and printed material regarding ballads, ballad collecting and folk festivals; and papers of Charles Alphonso Smith, archivist of the Virginia Folklore Society.
